Braces

Traditional braces and wires are usually what comes to mind when most people think of getting their teeth straightened. They’re also a great way to use self expression by using changeable colored bands for your school or favorite team!

Braces are not only used for straightening teeth — they can also correct your bite as well! If left untreated, bite issues can cause wear on your teeth, TMJD, and problems with eating or speaking.

What are braces?

Braces are metal brackets that are bonded to each individual tooth and an arch wire is used to put pressure on the teeth and jawline..

There are different types of braces to choose from:

  • Ceramic (less visible clear braces)

  • Traditional (metal brackets attached to your teeth)

  • Lingual (braces placed behind your teeth)

  • Clear aligner trays (also called Invisalign)

How do braces work?

Although it’s hard to imagine how braces might move your teeth into place, most people don’t realize that there’s a moldable membrane connecting the teeth to the supporting bone. By putting gentle pressure on this membrane for an extended period of time, the teeth slowly start shifting into place.
